Ontario Universities

Ontario is home to twenty public and seventeen private universities. With the oldest university established in 1827, this province offers some of the best schools in the country. University of Toronto

Carleton University

Situated in Ottawa, Carleton University is known as Canada’s capital university. This public university was established in 1942 during the Second World War. It offers undergraduate programs in architectural studies, arts, commerce, computer science, humanities, industrial design, international business, music, public affairs and policy management, social work and journalism. Graduate programs also offer a wide range of master’s and doctoral programs in different areas including engineering, anthropology, biology, architecture, chemistry, design, economics, architecture and sociology.

Ryerson University

Located in Toronto, Ryerson University was established in 1948, and it is one of the leading universities in Canada. With over 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students, the university has eight educational faculties.

University of Guelph

This is a publicly-funded research university situated in Guelph. Established in 1964, the university currently offers programs in different colleges.

Queen’s University

McMaster University

With its main campus located in Hamilton, McMaster University is a public research university established in 1887. Undergraduate and graduate programs are offered in six faculties.

Brock University

Established in 1964, Brock University is an accredited member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. It was the second university in Ontario to have its accounting programs accredited. This is a public university that has over 17,000 students in undergraduate programs and over 1,300 in graduate programs. Different degree programs are offered in seven faculties.

Laurentian University

This is a bilingual public university located in Greater Sudbury. It is known for providing the largest bilingual distance education program in Canada. The university offers a variety of undergraduate and professional programs in different disciplines.

Trent University

Trent University is a publicly-funded university that focuses on liberal arts and science. Established in 1964, the university is located in Peterborough. It offers undergraduate and graduate programs in different fields of study including anthropology, archeology and the sciences.

Lakehead University

Established in 1946, this is a provincially-funded non-denominational university located in Thunder Bay and Orilla. Lakehead University offers programs divided into nine faculties.

Nipissing University

Established in 1909, Nipissing University is a publicly-funded university located in North Bay. Undergraduate and graduate educational programs are offered in three faculties.

OCAD University

This is a public university that was established in 1876. Located in Toronto, the university offers different programs in various areas including arts.

Algoma University

Located in Sault Ste. Marie, Algoma University was founded in 1967. This university offers undergraduate degrees in over thirty academic programs in the fields of fine arts, computer science, business, English, history, psychology, biology and sociology.

Saint Paul University

Established in 1965, this is a Catholic Pontifical University located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The university houses four faculties with 19 areas of study from the undergraduate to doctoral level.

The Dominican University College

This is a bilingual public university located in Ottawa that offers various graduate and undergraduate degrees in philosophy and theology.

Redeemer University College

Situated in Ancaster, this is an undergraduate Christian liberal arts and science university. Established in 1982, Redeemer offers over forty undergraduate programs.
